Just like now days, Roman people worshipped a god. Or should I say gods? Roman people worshipped many gods. Do you know the the planets of our solar system are named after Roman gods? Mercy, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune and Pluto are all Roman gods. Uranus is named after a greek god.
You could say that the gods had their own kingdom, or a community. There was kings and Queens, parents, brothers and sisters. All ruling over the Roman people.
